A Copeland, Staffordshire plate from Royal Yacht Osborne (Queen Victoria/ Edward VII) |
|
the crest within a border of blue and gilt scrolling foliage, circa 1890-1901, 8in (20cm) approx.
Compare with a similar plate in The National Maritime Museum accession no AAA5390. The central motif of the NMM plate is decorated with a Queens Crown above Her Majesties Yacht. It appears that this plate bears a Princes crown. The motif was probably changed when the Prince either took possesion of the Yacht for a period of convalescence when the yacht was moored near Osborne House, Isle of Wight; or on his accession to the throne.
For a detail of the crest, please see the next thumbnail image along.
