Four-Leaf Clover.

A Bohemian Zwischengoldglas flared beaker,

of facetted tapered bucket form the base enclosing an single enamelled four-leaf clover on a gilt ground, the facets mirroring the image to form a ring of similar motifs,

circa 1860

4in (10cm) high approx.

In the ' Language of Flowers'  a four-leaf clover represents 'Be Mine'

'

Zwischengoldglas is a technique where thin layers of gold foil are trapped in a double walled glass vessel. The design reveals itself once the glass is empty. Implying that when the drinker has finished the message can be found from the giver, 'Be Mine'  as well as the four-leaf clover being a universal symbol for luck.
